Singapore firms eye investment in Thừa Thiên-Huế

HÀ NỘI — Singaporean firms are eyeing the province of Thừa Thiên-Huế as a potential investment destination in central Việt Nam, especially in the fields of tourism, sea ports and industry, the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) told provincial leaders in their meeting on Monday.

Attending the event were representatives of the International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) and  二 六 Singaporean construction, sea port, fisheries, education, travel and tourism firms.

The companies expressed their hope that Thừa Thiên–Huế would clarify its policy and investment orientation, especially in areas such as the Chân Mây seaport and Chân Mây–Lăng Cô economic zone (EZ).

Singapore firms eye investment in Thừa Thiên-Huế

The chairman of the provincial People’s Co妹妹ittee, Nguyễn Văn Cao, said Thừa Thiên-Huế considered Singapore as a key partner and potential investor, with many Singaporean investors already running effective projects there. He cited as an example the Banyan Tree Group and its Laguna Lăng Cô resort.

In recent years, Thừa Thiên-Huế has sought to create favourable conditions for investors as it strives to become a centre of culture, tourism, healthcare and education, as well as of science and technology, Cao added.

There are plenty of effective projects financed by many domestic and overseas enterprises in the province now, including the Carlsberg Beer Group, US-based Hanesbrands Inc, the Royal Caribbean International Group (RCI), Thailand-based Banpu Public Company Limited and Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited, Việt Nam-based Vingroup, Bitexco Group and Nguyễn Kim Trading Joint Stock Company.

Nguyễn Văn Cảm, Director of Planning and Business Development of the C.P. Việt Nam Livestock Breeding Joint-Stock Company (CPV), funded by a Thai business, said the company was very pleased with the environment investment in Thừa Thiên–Huế and appreciated the special support of the provincial authorities.

He said CPV also wanted to expand co-operation with Singaporean businesses to be able to export its products to the partner country. — VNS
